Breaking the glass ceiling of Faith.

Today’s topic is one I’ve been thinking long and hard about. It’s one that from my experience, a lot of Christians struggle with, it’s a subject that has more than one right answer, but this is my perspective. The subject I’ll be writing about today is the proverbial glass ceiling in our faith, and the fact that All things are possible through God, doesn’t mean we will always get what we want.

One of the things I struggle with as a follower of Jesus is handing over control and knowing that what happens will be for the best. This may stem from the fact I’m quite cynical by nature so I have a hard time fully putting my faith in others even when I know that I am able to trust them. But there’s always that thought in the back of mind “What if they lose interest?” “you know there just going to let you down right? So why bother trusting them?” Slowly I’m starting to trust people more and i’m coming to terms with handing over control to God, but this got me asking the question, do we as Christians put a limit on our faith?

What do i mean by this, well, allow me to explain. From my experience there’s this idea that we should be cynical in our faith, that because certain things won’t happen because in our human strength they seem impossible, which in term seems to put a lid on our expectation of God’s power in our lives, a “Glass ceiling” if you will. Sometimes we can get so caught in what God hasn’t done for us that we lose sight of what he has and what he will. Jesus himself said this “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)  So we shouldn’t be putting limits on our faith, If God Wills it, it will happen, But that’s the most important word “If”

Now, that’s not to say that we shouldn’t trust in the word of God, like i said if he wills it, it’ll happen. But this comes with an important caveat, Just because God is capable of all things doesn’t mean we’ll always get what we want. Something I’ve always been taught when it comes to my prayer life is “God always answers prayer, It just isn’t always the answer that you want.” God’s Power is infinite, and his will is just. And we’re blessed that this God of wondrous glory and unfailing grace is for us. But we need to understand that when things don’t work out how we want them too, it doesn’t mean that God isn’t there, it doesn’t mean that God isn’t capable of amazing things, it just means we have to be willing for his will to be done over ours, and in time, we’ll come to see why things turned out the way they did and why God is in control and not us.

We as people of faith need to shatter this glass ceiling of faith that a lot of us seem to have,  With God all things are possible, with Jesus at our sin is forgiven, with the holy spirit guiding us we are free people of God’s will and mercy, he will break down the walls that surround and destroy the limit on his light and power. So next time you have a crisis of faith or doubt God’s power, remember all things are possible through him.
